What is the name of your state?ny Heres our story in a nutshell. IN 2003 our building became infested with bedbugs. The building kept everything hushed untill they spread like wildfire. Apts above, below and next door were being fumigated and they would not do ours as we did not have them at the time.. sure enough we got them, they sent an exterminator (whom didnt know all that much about BB's) one time. We've been spraying our apt with our own pesticides and had to throw out thousands of dollars worth of belongings, We went door-to-door only to find many many tenants who had them and didnt know what they were or that it was a building wide problem. Our management company refused to do anything so we contacted a state official whom had the board of health come to our building. We also hired a lawyer to sue for breach of warranty of habitability-he later decided our case was too difficult to defend. We've lived here for a number of yrs always paid rent on time no problems our neighbors love us and we receive a letter from the management company last month stating we have to be out by Feb 28th because they are not renewing our lease-no reason stated. I know this is in retaliation for what we did. This building still has bedbugs and we still spray. We've been looking for a place but with children and a physcially disabled spouse whom just had serious surgery and has to undergo three additional surgeries in the upcoming months its quite hard. We had a letter sent to management from a government office asking for a reconsideration considering our circumstances-they have not replied.I want to move because of the BB's but its a hardship and Im angry that they are doing this. Im also afraid of being evicted and know nothing about housing issues as this has never happened before. We have all proof in the form of receipts, letters, pictures, drs, and extensive video tape of everything. What should we do? stay and have our day in court? how long does this take? Can they throw us in the street and lock us out? does anybody know of a lawyer who will help us maybe with a contingency fee basis? thanks!
