I live in one of the five apartments in an apartment building. Our landord is trying to sell the building. If it sells, what rights do we have as tenants? Can we stay? Most of the tenants do not have written leases; we simply pay rent monthly.

Then you will get a 30 day notice to leave. so start packing, and start selling you junk on http://www.ebay.com

Thats it, unless you can beg plead or pay money under the table to the landlord for a lease, then it will get transferred with your security deposit to the new owner.

You can do what ever you think is best but I wouldn't take advice fro some one thatgets her kick by tring to belittle other people and their problems. She replyed to my question with contempt and hateful disreguard for my feelings or problem. she offered no advice only hate and bitchyness

You want a lease if the landlord signs one with you there is nothing Illegal about that.

What IS ILLEGAL is if the landlord keeps that information from the new owner, ....all leases and security gets transferred to the new owner at the closing, so if you have a lease you can stay!

If you live in New York City you might have some serious rights here.
