We were renting a condo in California for about 1 1/2 years. My husband got promoted and we were relocating to Washington. We adviced our landlord that we were going to have to brake the lease because we were relocating. Her main concern was being able to find new tenants ASAP since she used the rent money to pay the mortgage on the condo. So we helped in advertising, posted several ads on newspapers and on the web. She had no problem finding new tenants. She said she would give us some of our deposit back, never happend. We gave her our new address and phone number, three months passed and we sent a letter to inquire about our deposit. She has never bothered to email or mail us back with a response. If she used all the deposit for repairs, she never sent an itemized copy of the cost. Don't we have a right to some of our deposit, since we broke the lease but it was work related?
