I have been living in a house my mother owns for 5 years rent free,(she said i could live here rent free as long as i could keep the house standing " any improvements were up to me to pay for. Now all of a sudden she wants me to start paying rent. After all the expensive improvements i have done - plus all the upkeep involved. I need to know what i can do to either not pay rent or to rent-to-own from her. Help!!

The law does not care what your relationship is to the property owner; in this case your mother. So you do not have a legal right to live there rent free or under a rent-to-own arrangment simply because you are the son of the owner. Your mother has the right to require rent from any tenants. Further, your mother certainly does not have to provide her tenants with a rent-to-own type of arrangment. OK?
