my landlord allowed me to move into his duplex, in which he lives in the other half, in the beginning of january. the agreement was that i was to pay 250 per month plus half of the electric (as the meter tallies both units). i was not to pay rent until the first of february as i had to clean up the past tennants mess, including canine feces on the living room floor, and shampoo allof the rugs out of my own pocket.
today he confronted me saying that i had to give him 500 by next friday, eight days from now or he would lock the door and not allow me to return for my belongings until i payed him, also that if i were to begin removing my belonging from the residence prior to his having recieved the money he would lock me out immediately!
i need to know what kind of action i can take to preserve my rights. i know that it is not fair that he ask for money after telling me that my rent for january was the cleaning, but i also know that it is illegal for him to lock me out and not give me my belongings!

GEE i like this......

Just where do you people come from ..the swamps?

Hey reba..have you ever rented a place before? have you ever had a lease? Do you know what one is?

All you damn poor people paying your money to clean up the landlords property. what fools you are.....

Now why didnt you get anything in writing? Oh he's a good ole boy, nevr meanin no harm, yes some good ole boys...

OK now #1 he cannot lock you out period if he tries CALL THE POLICE AND HAVE THE LOW LIFE ARRESTED!

#2 you will learn, to get a better job so you can rent from a real landlord who has cleaned up and fixed everything BEFORE you move in.

#3 Good luck!
