After eight years renting, the Landlord calls and tells my wife, "I've decided to sell the house. I'm putting a lock box on the front door for the realtor to gain entry, in three days. I'd like you moved out by February 28." His call came today, January 17. I can't possibly find a place in that time frame. Alameda County has a vacancy rate of less than 1%. I don't want people in my home that aren't my invited guests. What are my rights?

Well without a lease a 30 day notice is all you get.....

Also the broker or LL should let you know 24 hrs before anyone wants to see the place, you could keep dirty clothes on the floor leave the toothpaste in the bathroom sink,

OR start cooking with a lot of GARLIC and cook fish and dont air out the apartment, if they just show up unnannounced.

Now do you feel stupid for not having a lease?
