So when you called your city to learn what its ordinances are as to signs that show areas to be tow zones or no parking, who the tow company is, how to reach them ? etc what did you learn? ( many cities do indeed have ordinances that require apartment parking lots to have signs saying who the tow company is, phone number of tow company and many cities require things like no parking zones to be marked or so called reserved parking.)

Well, the first thing is that it has to comply with the State Vehicle code (22658 VC) whether there's a local ordinance or not. That requires at least a sign indicating cars are subject to towing (and details). This is why I asked my question.

So yes, the landlord can have your car towed. Whether you get any notice or other consideration depends on the details.
