What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Tennessee

We rent a house on a large farm, the house is on a well located 20 feet from our home. The landlord informed us that she is going to allow someone to fill fertilizer trucks from our household drinking well. The well has no backflow preventer, and they are wanting to tie in directly to our well house. Is this legal, what can we do about this? Please help!

if your paying the electric for the well tell the LL NO and go find a locking cover for the faucet and lock it , (local hardware store) other wise go get a back flow preventer and install it if your not paying the electric for that well. the idea is that your LL cannot fairly force you to pay the cost of a utility used by someone else unless your state laws allow for a utility to be shared when it is disclosed in writing to you in your lease.

Thank you for replying, yes we pay all of the electricity for the well pump and we just bought a lock for the well house.

If they break the lock and do as they please call the county's health dept. Ya don't want to boil drinking water all the time or pay extra. Make sure it's a good solid lock . Then tell them if they mess with it you'll take whatever legal actions are available to yo if they interfere.

actually if they break the lock off and take water anyway they are stealing from you call the sheriff and report the theft of utility that you pay for. Second learn if there is supposed to be a backflow preventer on that faucet anyway . ( your county zoning desk should be able to tell you)
