I live in concord, ca
I have been renting a condo from a woman for a year and a half now. I am a month to month renter and the lady I rent the condo from always comes by sometime in the begining of the month to collect rent. I have not had too may problems with the place accept for my air conditioner. Last summer I notified her by phone that the a/c was not blowing cool air. She did not fix the problem untill I withheld the rent. Two days after she sent someone out to fix it, it broke. Now this summer I notified her in writing that the air was still broken, in fact i left at least 10 messages reguarding the a/c at her work, on her house phone and cell. my final message was after i had the job appraised saying that If she was too busy I would take care of the situation and take it out of rent. I still never heard from her, she even sent someone else by the house to collect rent and did not notify me she was doing so. It has been one month and my roomate is getting tempratures because of the heat, so finally I just had it fixed. She called two days after i had fixed it screaming at me. I then got a letter of eviction. What can I do , What are my rights. I would really like to stay in the place and try to work it out but I think she is trying to pull one over on me
