What is the name of your state? MD

My girlfriend had laser hair removal done on her legs. Afterwards she had burns in the shape of rings all over her legs. The Doctor said that he had no clue what it was, but that it looked like some sort of freezer burn. They said they had no clue. They had her try numerous medicine ointments. After she used them the actual burn parts peeled off, but she has no pigment rings all over her legs. I would believe that it was from the administrator incorrectly setting the cooling liquid that the laser shoots out after each laser shot. The cooling liquid is sprayed around the spot after the laser hits the center part. This has been a real disaster. We have gone on 2 trips due to it being summer, but she ended up staying in the room or wearing jeans while we went out. She is miserable. What are our options? TIA.

Have her go to another laser hair removal center, preferably one that she can get a good reference on. She can show them the burns and get their professional opinion about whether the burns are the result of negligence by the practitioner or whether it's something that just happens sometimes even if the practitioner does everything right. If another laser technition believes there was negligence, then the next step would be consulting a lawyer. If not, then she probably has no action; burns are a known risk of laser hair removal and she undoubtedly signed an informed consent sheet stating she was aware of this.

We went and spoke with another technician at a formidable Laser Center. We were told it was due to using the wrong type of laser on her skin type. They said if they were going to use that particular type of laser on her they should of run a test spot and waited to see if such an incident would occur. So it seems as if we were correct in our assumption that it was negligence on their part. I guess the next step would be to work on contacting a lawyer?

Unfortunately, part of the problem with the increasing numbers of laser centers popping up is that the treament providers are trained for a weekend or two, then are deemed "qualified" to use the laser. One has to accept some responsbility by always asking for the credentials, length of experience, and references when choosing a provider for cosmetic procedures. A board certified provider may be more expensive, and not a guarantee that everything will turn out perfectly, but OP's experience is a perfect example of why it pays to do the research.

Good luck to your girlfriend, AlmostRetired.

After reading this thread, I did a Google search and found a lot of information on laser hair removal. Medications, skin type, hair color, procedure used...... are many factors that need to be taken in to consideration.

Thanks for sharing the problems that your g/f had, I have learned something from what your g/f experienced and hopefully others did too.

Good luck to her.
