How about California? I had an ultrasound done 14 months ago and received the first billing yesterday! Am I still liable for the full amount, even if my insurance and finanacial situations have changed dramatically since the time of the examination?

My response:

Yes.

In California, the Statute of Limitations on written contracts is 4 (four) years from the initial date of service, or from the date of your last payment, whichever is later.

If the doctor's office hasn't collected by then, or filed a lawsuit against you within that time, they are out of luck.

If your insurance doesn't pay the doctor, you're on the hook.
