What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? michigan
i have a questioned about deferred billing. I bought some items and shortley after the purchase we had a house fire and lost everything. I forgot all about the deferred billing and closed the account and credit card i used for the deferred billing. When my old bank contacted me to let me know a creditor was trying to put charges through I called the creditor and gave them a new credit card and told the old bank to disallow the charges since the account had been closed for over a month. The bank is stating that I am responsible for $130 in late fees. They now have changed their story and said the charges have already been forced through. Can they put charges through on a closed account and charge me late fees? Can they do this because I preauthorized the dedt? I have paid the bank what I would have paid the creditor less the late fees and they now are threatening me with small claims court.

Any advice would be helpful.
