I was recently experiencing some hard times and was late on my rent last month. I clearly understood that I am obligated to pay the agreed 5% late penalty (after 5 days). In fact, my lease agreement states that "tenant agrees to pay for legal fees incurred by owner..." However, a notice signed by the management company was put on my apartment door (DATED ON THE SIXTH DAY of the month) stating that "unless rent + late penalty was paid WITHIN FIVE DAYS, owner will be forced to pursue legal action." Accordingly, I paid all rent and penalties due on the eleventh. Yet, the manager tells me that I am also obligated to pay the additional $80 court filing fee they incurred that very same morning.

Is this true?? I am in possession of a written document from the management company stating that I had "five days" from the sixth...
