I live in Colorado. I have lived in this apartment for the past 3+ years. During that time I have had to pay my rent late twice and had one check returned for NSF. When paying the rent late, the complex always accepted my personal check for payment. For the NSF check I was required to pay with a cashiers check. The portion of my lease that addresses this has two sentences. The first sentence discusses late payment, fees etc and does not state how the form of payment must be. The second sentence addresses NSF checks and states that these must be paid with a cashiers check. This month I will be paying my rent late, the late fee occurs on the 4th. On the 4th I had a notice on my door stating that I must pay with a cashiers check. This will require me to have to take off of my job early to get the cashiers check, as I do contract work (no work, no pay).
My question: My interpretation, and apparently the complexs, since they allowed it, was that I could pay my late rent(plus fees) with a personal check. Can they now just change their minds about this, with no notice and require a cashiers check. I had other options had I of known they were making the change.
