I filed a criminal complaint in Virginia against a person who stole a computer from me. Charge is petit larceny since I couldn't prove the computer was worth more than $200 (it was an old computer). In Virginia this charge is a Class 1 misdemeanor. With the evidence I have it is 99% likely he will be found guilty.
What is the possible punishment he might get for this? I can't seem to find it in the Virginia state code.
Am I likely to get any of the fine if one is levied against him or will I then have to go after him in civil court? I thought there was some law against suing someone twice for the same offense.
I have found out that computer was willfully destroyed by the person in order to spite me. To replace it will be a lot more than the $200. What options do I have to recover this amount?

For Class 1 misdemeanors, confinement in jail for not more than twelve months and a fine of not more than $2,500, either or both.
