What is the name of your state? Virginia

I am so pissed at my 29 year old son. Currently separated and filing for divorce. Has nom oney to pay off credit card. The credit card company told him if he paid 2300 of the 5900 bill (only 2200 in actual purchases) they would write off the rest. Told our son to contact them and we would loan him the money. Well he did not. Now it has been turned over to a law firm for collection. What are his steps now. This is the second one, the other one we paid the law firm the entire amount because they had a court date set for judgement. What happened to the days when credit cards were considered unsecured loans and they could not collect?

What are out steps at this point?

Credit cards are unsecured loans, and there has NEVER been a time when they didn't have the right to collect.

I would suggest that he contact the collection attorney and try to negotiate a settlement. If successful, get it in writing. A good sample settlement letter can be found at: http://www.creditinfocenter.com/forms/

Credit cards have always been unsecured debt, that does NOT mean they can't collect !

If you settled with the first collection agency/law firm, did you get anything in writing to the effect it was settled ??? If not, then they sold off the unpaid balance to another collection agency/law firm to collect the rest.
