What is the name of your state? CA Me, my friend, my 2 kids and her child were struck on interstate 580 by a pickup truck hauling a huge trailer (think it was a racecar trailer). Heavy damage to my van's rear pull up door, pushed us into the car in front with minimal damage there, then hit us again. My 10-year-old daughter has neck and low back pain and I have neck, shoulder, left arm pain. Everyone says get a lawyer but I am hesitant to do that. I just want what's fair, bills paid for, physical therapy paid for, pain and suffering, etc. I don't want to get a lawyer only to have them get a % of the money I am entitled to, unless a lawyer truly will make a significant difference in the amount we receive. I am not a litigious type of person and I am very uncomfortable with the thought of automatically suing. Am I being naive? The man who hit us and his insurance company (State Farm) have claimed full responsibility for the accident. Should I be looking at getting a lawyer?

There are 5 people involved in this accident, 2 of them are your children. Getting a lawyer will make your life easier. You will pay them for that work they do for you, but they will be able to get a higher settlement then you could get on your own. Even if it ends up being a wash, I think the added peace of mind and the less leg work you would need to do would be worth it. However the choice is up to you.
