What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA

I am remarried with children in new marriage. One child from previous marriage. I am disabled.

My husband was laid off from his employer. His field is highly specialized. He is trying to find employment around here so that we can stay in the same community and keep everything the same. But the reality is that if nothing comes up soon, early next year, we will run out of money and no longer be able to afford to even live here. Most of the jobs in his industry are a few states away.

While relocating is not ideal, as I said, our reality is that there might not be employment here and we will be broke. I am absolutely willing to work with my ex husband to ensure extremely liberal visitation and video conferencing as often as possible (which would actually be more frequent contact than dad is taking advantage of now).

Please don't flame me. I'm not trying to be a bad guy. I'm not trying to move for the sake of moving. I'm looking for whatever options are available to keep us from living in a car. We are desperate. What I need to know is if this is feasible and what I have to do to make it work out best for everyone.

I should add that my ex husband is not in a position to take custody of our child- so the "kid has to stay but you can go" thing doesn't work.

Thank you all for any help and guidance. We are absolutely in our darkest moments trying to figure out anything to stay afloat.

Would dad be willing to allow the child to move?

If he isn't going to try to get custody, then it is likely you will be able to work out a long distance visiting schedule. You will have to pay all the transportation costs.

As long as my husband is employed in his field, we can cover transportation costs. I'm okay with this.

Do you know at all what the court process is? Does it take months? I understand that things can't happen over night, but our other option is for my husband to move without us while I stay to deal with any court issues

I really hope he finds something here :(
