Hello

I live in Irvine ,CA and I need to break lease as I got laid off and the rent is exorbitantly high. In the lease break term there are 2 choices to get away; Pay 2 months rent or pay the rest of the lease term (5 months left). I do not want to do either as I do not have a job and tight on finance.

Is there a law in California that if the tenant lost his job and cannot afford the rent, can break the lease without owing anything?

What are my choices to get away without paying anything?

I appreciate any advice.

Thank you

Well, they cannot forcibly take your money from you, but they can certainly keep your deposit and sue you for the rest.
