I am moving from Nashville, TN to Chattanooga, TN which is over 120 miles away from each other. This is a job transfer.... I have had many people, including the fire marshall, tell me that my apartment complex cannot make me pay back my rent since my company is moving me... Is this true... Do I have legal ground to stand on...

Thanks for your response.

NO you owe the rent untill a new tenant moves in.....

the cost should have been figured in your moving expenses for the new job.

The apartment complex will sue you for back rent, all damages, and rent that is left on your lease, and since you are moving 120 miles away

THEY FIGURE YOU ARE TOO STUPID AND LAZY TO COME BACK FOR A COURT APPEARANCE AND DEFEND YOURSELF

so they will get a judgement and it will be on your credit report for 10 years..

So to avoid all of that pay ALL that you owe, let them keep the security deposit, and make them sign an agreement that the lease is cancelled and all monies have been paid in full to the complex, for the cancellation of the lease... so they wont sue you next month.

NOW do you think the job transfer was worth it?

Well that is the ONE state that you should be living in then.

It happens no where else.
