My family and I moved to Maryland, outside of DC, in November. Due to the tight housing market we could not find a place to buy, so we decided to lease a house. We signed a lease for 10 months, through August 31, 2001. We cannot afford to buy the house, so our neighbors decided to buy it. Can we be kicked out once the title is transfered to the neighbors?

We wanted to stay in the house until the end of the summer. We tied up our money (profits from sale of old house) in a CD and it is not available until after July 4th. Although we are looking, we haven't found anything we like.

Do we have any legal ground to stay until the end of the original lease?

Is this a local matter, meaning might the laws vary by city? We are currently in Takoma Park. Another neighbor told us that once the house is sold our lease with the seller becomes void. Is this true? Help!

YES you can be kicked out after August 31st 2001....well almost ..after that day you are a holdover and they have to legally evcit you in court and you dont want that.

A lease AND your security deposit gets transferred to the new owner at the closing.

So if either one wants you out sooner they will have to PAY YOU to move that includes all of your moving expenses, costs, all your security back and if you can hustle them a months free rent

So dont worry.......UNLESS you didnt read your lease and it states that the lease is terminated upon sale of the house..then youre screwed!
