What is the name of your state? Minnesota
My problem is that my roomate and I signed a year lease and about 6 months ago we started to have some problems but I couldn't get him to sign me off of the lease so now our lease is up at the end of the month and I went up to the office to talk to them about it and it switches to month to month payments at the end of the month but they said that even after the year lease is up that I am still liable for the apartment if he doesn't sign me off on the lease. The problem is that we are on assisted living so we pay very low rent and he will more than likely not sign me off but this doesn't make any sense because hypathetically he could "make" me stay here as long as he wanted. Anybody else thing that this lease doesn't sound right?

Since your LL has told you that you become month to month then Write them notice telling them you will be moving out and to be safe make it so that it will take affect before aug 1 and that aug month with them. you are going to have to get the notice done before 8/1 and send it to roomate too and use certified mail for both LL and Roomate . Keep your copys some where else as well as your certifed rcts. Plan on paying aug rent but NO more. even with assisted living they cannot hold you to anything longer than a month to month rental now refer to our state govt web page LL/T links for notice info.
