What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? MA

We have signed a new lease and were supposed to get keys this week. However, the apartment manager is on vacation and so did not get the keys. If we do not get keys by early next week, we will be in trouble. The lease says that if the LL cannot deliver the premise within 30 days of lease commencement, the lease can be cancelled. But we cannot wait for 30 days to find another accomodation. Are there other options in case we do not get keys by next week.

Have you paid your rent a any other monies to move in ?

If so , you shouldn't have to wait 30 days .

If not , and the place is not available on move in date , the lease should be voidable , also .

Anything written into a lease that goes against state law is not enforceable .

Search for your State's landlord tenant laws for your answer .

You could probably call your local Attorney General's Office of consumer affairs , also for your answers .
