I just signed a lease for five years on an automobile, and they need my wifes signature also. But after talking it over I want out. Even though my wife hasn't signed yet and it's not forty=eight hours they say I can't back out, and they refuse to give me my car back (the trade-in down payment).

Why do they NEED your wife's signature??
What if you/she refuse?? Are they willing to void the contract???
If not, you are stuck with the agreement that YOU signed (assuming you are over 18 YOA).

demand a manager, cancel the down pmt check, threaten tv awareness, leave it there with the keys on the desk.
If they threaten to have it repoed-call an officer and tell them it's THEIR property.
I DID THIS-it worked and it was more than 48 hrs.

Obviously, your situation was far different than the original writer.

Lets start with how you were lucky. You said that you 'cancelled' the down payment check. I assume this means you put a "stop pay" on it. If so, that is a violation of Texas law. And if you did enter a contract, the fact that they didn't pursue it against you was a CHOICE that they made. Your experience could very probably be different than our writers.
