Colorado- I accepted a position with a company 1800 miles from my home. It was agreed at my interview that the company would assist me with moving expenses. The general manager who made the promise to me was unable to get the funds from the company, so he wrote me a personal check and had me sign a "contract" in the form of an employment acceptance letter on company letterhead. The acceptance letter outlined my salary and benefits. It also stated that the loan was to be paid back by the end of 2000. While employed, I was forced to give up some of benefits promised in the acceptance letter. During my employment, I paid half of the total loan. After only 7 weeks of employment, the general manager was asked to resign and my position was eliminated too. Due to the fact that I have to work, I accepted a position at a much lower pay rate with a new company. Am I responsible for paying back the loan I accepted with the intent of having that job and that salary after I moved? And, since the terms of my acceptance letter were broken by the employer by revoking benefits as promised, does that void the contract?
