I bought a house with a friend. When we split up, he used the legal system as revenge to prevent the splitting of the proceeds from the sale of the house (approximately what we had put into the house). He kept appealing every court decision all of the way to the supreme court. This took 6+ years. I won every decision. But in SC the most you can ask for in legal fees is $1000 - which I got. My lawyer charged $10,000. Would the other $9000 be tax deductible?
