I am a UK citizen, living legally in California for 2 years with my husband on a J-1 visa. Having lived together for 15 years, we decided to marry 1.5 years ago in the UK for visa purposes, but didn't tell any family or friends. We now want to have a wedding ceremony and invite everyone. Can we legally get married a second time under Californian law? This would mean we would actually have 2 marriage licences, one UK and one US, with different dates. Is this legal? Or, if not legally binding, can we go ahead anyway without breaking the law?
