What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California
My son is in the midst of a court case involving child custody, visitation and child support. His attorney has bailed out on him and we have a court date on January 7, 2010. Must we hire another attorney? Can I represent my son in court for this matter? I certainly know more about the details than any attorney I could hire in the next week or so. Any advice would be so appreciated.

You cannot represent your son unless you are a licensed attorney. How on earth did he need bail for a child custody case:confused:

Sorry to confuse you. His attorney "bailed out" on him as in she simply notified him that she no longer will represent him in this matter.

It's a very long story but my son's attorney sent another attorney into court who didn't know much about the visitation issues at all and it was a disasterous outcome. We complained to his attorney (I am paying all the bills) and she responded by dropping the case saying she could never satisfy us. To clarify, our complaint to her was not necessarily the outcome of the court date but the fact that we had prepared for months for this hearing and she personally guaranteed that she would be in court on that date.

Seriously, you need to let your son take care of this himself. I know you're trying to help but you could actually be damaging your sons chances if you're over-involved in a matter which does not legally concern you.

Then it is understandable she dropped your son -- because she wanted to get rid of you. You paying the bills matters not. The attorney does NOT work for you. YOU are interfering to the point of disaster.

Following this logic....presumably you know your son's weight and length at birth, so you are ready to practice obstetrics?

Really, no more ridiculous.
