My response:
In 1972, Federal law changed concerning the legal age of adulthood (majority) - - from 21 to 18 years of age.
At age 18, a person (unless incompetent) is soley responsible for their own actions. No one else.
This was the first notable change:
United States Constitution
Article. [XXVI.]
[Proposed 1971; Ratified 1971]
"Section. 1. The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age.
"Section. 2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
And then a year later, Congress changed the age of majority to age 18 for every aspect of adult life - - with only a few exceptions.
