Hello,

I am in the process of creating a business that teaches the elderly how to use technology and social media applications. However, I am curious as to if there are any restrictions on what I am able to teach.

Are there any guidelines as to what a third party source is able to teach about another companies product or application?

I have searched various copyright and trademark guidelines but I am unable to find a clear statement on educational programs regarding their products.

Thanks

What is the name of your state or, if not in the US, what is the name of your country?

While waiting for a response on state/country name, here are two links on fair use in the US as fair use applies to educational uses of rights-protected material:

Im located in Manitoba, Canada.

I will take a look at those links as well.

We’d like to focus on teaching the elderly how to use tools such as facebook and apple devices but are unsure of what we can legally teach.

Thanks again!

Thank you for providing the name of your country.

FreeAdvice is a U.S. law site so what is presented in the way of information here is not likely to be of much help to you. The copyright and trademark laws in the U.S. and Canada have some important differences. Fair use, for example, is a U.S. doctrine.

I recommend you locate an attorney in your area to help you with your business plans. I very much like your idea for a business, by the way, and I wish you good luck with it.

Here is a link to Canada's Copyright Act. You might want to look at 27 Part III, exceptions. http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/c-42/
