I'm in Washington state, Kitsap County. Temporary Family Law orders were filed on 8/4/17 and I've lived separately since 8/11/17. Am I legally separated or do I need to file something - a motion for an order etc to have this be official? I need to be legally separated to take my wife off as beneficiary of my retirement funds. I also can get her signature to accomplish the same thing, but the legal separation status seems like it would be useful in other things as well.

Temporary Family Law orders
What do those orders say?

Did you get something like this:

http://www.courts.wa.gov/forms/documents/422-027-CertificateDissolution.pdf

Or this:

http://www.courts.wa.gov/forms/documents/FL Divorce 241 Final Divorce Order 4-25-2016.pdf

So far as I can tell you need an order from the court saying you are legally separated. I found forms but no instructions for the procedure:

http://www.courts.wa.gov/forms/?fa=forms.contribute&formID=25

Thank You. I should have seen this myself as I've downloaded a number of forms from that website. All of the forms look like final orders and seem to require resolution of issues I am nowhere close to resolving. None of these forms were filed in my case yet. So I guess I have to wait.
