I'm in Florida, trying to find out if there would be any legal issues with selling industry information (pricing to be specific). I'm a retailer with accounts with suppliers. Customers I'm sure would pay to know what I (and my competitors) pay for our products prior to the negotiation process. Does anyone know who I should speak to about any legal issues if there are any?

Thank you in advance for responses. :)

Some vendors treat their pricing as a trade secret. There may also be agreements between the vendor and purchaser that the pricing will be kept confidential. If you start selling vendor pricing info, the vendors may simply decide not to do business with your company any longer.

Thank you so much for the reply.

Thank you for replying so soon. :) I understand that the vendors wouldn't like it and while I don't mean to sound shady, realistically, how would they know which account leaked the pricing if the online entity was unattached from the retail store? Additionally, if selling the price lists became more profitable than selling the product, would it be illegal to pay another vendor to look at his account pricing? What I'm aiming for is providing consumers a little more negotiation power and the ability to save some money.

Your problem is that price lists aren't really that profitable. And if you advertize them for sale, then you may be making yourself known to the vendor. Money leaves a trail.

Besides, if your goal is really just to help the consumer, not yourself, then post them publicly. Don't charge people for them. But the person above is right, it may be regarded as a trade secret and may be protected in the non-disclosure agreement that your company has with the distributor. Sometimes these prices are specific to your company depending on how much business you do and if they found the price list online may be able to identify it as belonging to your company.

Just out of curiousity, what type of pricing is it?
