Don't leave me hanging...what do you think the vending machine operator did?

The word you are looking for is "entrepreneur"
Yes, that's generally how repairs to electronic circuit boards are done.

I suppose it could be done...but to what end? A few extra bucks before people stop using the machine? That wouldn't make any sense.

It might - but the chances of that happening are slim. It's much more lucrative to simply sell the marked-up goods at a profit.
What was your question again? What do I think he did? Operate a machine that eats people money and fails to provide the goods. Vending machine in a tourist area with a high amount of travelers will not have repeat customers anyway. Arrest the rest area of a busy highway is mostly going to have people on their way from point A to point B not people who live in the general area. I live in Florida and we have rest areas very crowded with people who are traveling across the state but don't live in the town of the rest area.

Vending machines can break on their own(no hacking required) and will eat people money. Simple failing to repair them and continue operating in this state may end up making the owner more money. There was a TV repair man( Tommy carmichael) in Vegas who used his tinkering skills to design special looks using household items that was able to steal millions from Casino slot machines. He could hack the machine sitting in a Casino with Cameras and security all around and did it for years before he was caught. What do you think he did?

I think there are youtube documentaries talking about what he did if you are interested .

It would make then the same kind of entrepreneur as those Indian scam callers you probably get all day saying is there a warrant out for your arrest but since their payment system is down, you have to buy gift cards at Walmart and tell them the numbers over the phone. There are countless call centers scamming people as we speak. They are not owned by the soda companies but any ex-con can setup and run one.
I am asking if what they are doing is criminal is proven it was done on purpose. I was not expecting to have to provide a step by step guide on how to do it.
I am just thinking about loud here but if perhaps you could force the mechanism in the machine to break in the same way it naturally does when it eats money and fails to provide the good. I am certain it could be done if the owner was dishonest enough.

Keep in mind, some of these people will put like these cardboard boxes at retailers asking for a donation with pictures of starving children in Haiti then just pocket all the money. They are not the saints you seem to think.

So you have no actual case and just want to go on in your bigoted way about "Indian scam callers" (guess what -- there are AMERICAN scam callers) and kids in Haiti. Good grief. How about you knock it off and actually stick to facts and not your pathetic ideas with no facts or relevance to your question?

If a machine "eats" your money call the vendor. The # is on the machine. If the vendor refuses to send you a refund, file a small claims suit.

I'm not sure who "these people" are, but no one has yet expressed any opinion about anyone's eligibility for sainthood.
