legally using music in short film

I was wondering if I can legally use music by popular artists in my short film? Some people tell me i just have to put a disclaimer, but I'm worried there is more to it. Please inform me.

'Some people' don't know what they are talking about. You need a license for any copyrighted performance, music or other materials.It doesn't matter if the film is short, long, medium or porn.
