I am a letter carrier for the post office in south Floida and recently obtained my real estate license, what do I have to watch out for so I do not have conflict of interest! I want to know what I can do and can not do as far as buying houses on my route that may be vacant but others may not know please help I want to obey the Law
 


there should be no problems as long as you do not start hand delivering your own verifications for financing and when you purchase something on your route for rental purposes don't go collecting rent with a bag of mail on your hip. you should be fine. good luck.

**A: there are 4 areas of concern:
1. any applicable State and Federal law
2. your USPS employer guidelines and regulations.
3. your real estate principal broker and brokerage guidelines and regulations.
4. Realtor Code of Ethics

I suggest you check into all.

Check the USPS Ethics rules. Usually there are general standards of ethical conduct that state you cannot use your gov't position for personal gain. You may find that you need specific approval from the USPS ethics division to take on outside employment.
