What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NYC

I am a long time undertenant to a 2br apartment. The building (market rate) is trying to kick out the tenant (named on lease, lives in other bedroom). It's a holdover case that will probably not end till the Spring or even later and has 50/50 odds. I was named in court papers as the undertenant.

What is my liability/responsbility? Is it only to the main tenant or the building (i have no lease with them).

Am I better off grabbing something now or waiting till the Spring (to see if it's a win) and keeping my current situation?

An eviction gets aimed at ALL occupants regardless of who is on what contract.

If the eviction is successful it will be public record and end up on your credit report. You will become a pariah to all to whom you apply for a rental, especially in NYC where demand is high and landlords can pick and choose who to rent to.

It's up to you if you want to roll the dice on a 50/50 chance and hope it doesn't come up craps or ask for you to be dismissed from the lawsuit in exchange for moving out now (or after the 30 days notice you have to your roommate if you are on month to month).
