the information needed to set up a yahoo email address is not required to be true information. i have many yahoo accounts with different profiles. since it is web based, the person can access their account from any public computer (library, internet cafe, etc.)

The short answer to your question is that yes, SOMETIMES a post can be traced to a particular individual. There are numerous way to avoid being traced, but the typical user, writing from a private home pc, can usually be traced.

There is a limit to how long the server keeps records of net activity. Some servers, keep the info for as little as six days.
