I am an artist and try to sell some of my images to make some extra income. Recently I received an email from a site saying that I was stealing copyright images. This, of course, is totally untrue. Do I have a case for libel?

Assuming that US law applies, no, you do not have a case for libel until or unless you can show that (a) a false or negligent statement was broadcast or published to an audience AND (b) as a result of this broadcast or publication, you have suffered damages as the law sees damages.

IF you have all these things backing you up, including the software company. I'd make a note of it, then ignore them. Seems to be a growing trend where someone will suddenly say you used their work or someone else, just to remove their compartition or latter if it's a scam... Try to settle the matter out of court, by making an offer to look the other way.

Sorry, but US laws only!!
And NO, you have no case for libel... even if you wanted to spend the $10,000 plus in legal fees to bring this to court in the US.

Hmm... it doesn't seem right that there is nothing I can do. I always thought making false accusations and threats was against the law. I guess I will have to take legal advice here. I suppose I am within my rights then to let everyone know how this company treated me and to warn other people not to do business with them.

**A: against the law? This website does not deal in UK law?
