What is the name of your state? Pa.

Recently I was publicly (online) accused of tampering or hacking a sites Chat room this accusation was posted on their main page and also in their forums. Most of the members knew I was the former webmaster and that his how the accusation was phrased.

Needless to say this accusation is untrue, as I am not a hacker nor do I know how to hack. The poster of the accusation also knew/knows I was planning on farming out my webmaster skills to earn an income. They offered NO proof of this false accusation but still posted it in both areas.

Is this Slander/Libel that would possibly win a court case or do I have a case?

Thanks!

In this scenario, it would depend on a few different things. But, in the longrun you would need some CAPITAL, FINANCIAL RESOURCES, to pursue a defamation, libel suit. This seems to be the major problem with these cases. These type of suits are lengthy, difficult and very expensive. Most Attorneys will NOT take a slander/libel case on a pro buono basis, there is too much involved. If you don't have at least $5- $10,000 to throw around then I would say there is not much you can do. Hope this helps you.

You are welcome. I did have a family member who considered suing someone for libel/slander. The Attorney told her up front, there are no guarentees. Asked for a 7,000 retainer just for starters. Informed her that in the end she would probably walk away with very little or nothing at all. Defamation cases seem to be for the Rich to pursue. Good luck.
