I was arrested for a DUI on August 12, 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada and am a California resident. I was convicted of a DUI in June of 2007 in Nevada and was required to fulfill my criminal and DMV obligations for the state of Nevada. I did all that was required of me except, until I found out recently, that I had not paid a reinstatement fee for my driving privileges in Nevada. I found this out because I tried to renew my CA driver's license and a hold was placed on it based on my failure to pay the previously mentioned fee.
For some reason CA never found out about my DUI in Nevada until this past week and I am now receiving a license suspension in the state of CA for my DUI that occurred almost 5 years ago. Is there some sort of time limit for the DMV to suspend a license, especially when it took them so long to find out about it? Also, the "Order of Suspension" paperwork they sent me said that the suspension will begin starting June, 2007 which was 4 years ago.
