What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York

I recently purchased around 500 3x5 photographic prints and polaroids rom a Flea Market dealer in California. The photos seem to mostly come from old family photo albums, and were taken between 1950-2000. Some may have come from other sources. I have no relation to the people in the photos, and paid about $50 for the entire set.

My question is what licenses apply to the photos? And in what way can I reuse them? Can I use them in a commercial sense (i.e. some may be good as postcards)?

Please let me know if I can provide any addition information.
