What is the name of your state? AZ

I wanted to go back to school so contacted some online schools. I was very upfront and informed them them there was no way I could do this without financial aid. For the month leading up to the start of class I called about twice a week or so to make sure that my application and financial aid were in order. Over a week before class started I was informed by a different school that I was also interested in that there may be a problem with my financial aid. I had applied at this second school after the first. I immediately called the school and expressed my concerns. I was told not to worry that everything looked good. I was told this by both my advisor and the financial aid department. A few days before class started I again called both financial aid and my advisor and was told that everything was fine with my application and aid package. A week after class had started I got a call saying I was being denied for financial aid and that I that I now had to pay the school. I talked to the schools collection department and sent letters saying that I was lied to and should have never been allowed in class since they KNEW I had no money and that financial aid was the only way I could pay for classes. I did pay the application fee since that was not part of attending the school. I have sent letters saying I feel I owe nothing but have never received any reply but a bill. They have now sent me to a collections account that shows on my credit report, again without ever trying to contact with except with a bill. WHAT CAN I DO?

What online school was it?

Did you actually take classes and recieve grades? OR
Did you drop the classes when you were told you had to pay the bill?

Have you ever been to this school before?

What exactly shows up on your credit report?
--Did you get loans with financial aid and is it the lender that shows up on the report?
--And have 'YOU' actually looked at your credit report or did the college/collection agency just tell you that it is on there.

Is it a department in the college who is trying to collect? OR
Is it an external collection agency who is trying to collect? OR
Is it a bank who is trying to collect?
