What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA
Can a lein be placed on a non-owner occupied house where the work done was not requested by the owner?
The home I live in is owned by a family member (not a spouse). I asked a registered civil engineer to do an evaluation of the land and write a report. There was no written contract.
I've been out of state and 2 months late on payment - they said 2 weeks ago they will put a lien on the house. I have a registered mail notice but have not picked up the letter (still out of state). They have also said they will report it to credit agencies and affect my credit.
I intend to pay them within a month, however it seems they may have already taken some action. Can they do a lien on the house even though I am not the owner? If not how do i remove it?
If they have ding-ed my credit in conjunction with the lien, do I have recourse about that?
Thanks.
