My spouse purchased our home last year in the state of Nevada. After the purchase of the home, we began receiving mechanics liens from various contractors. As a matter of fact, all of the homeowners received liens. Apparently, the builder did not pay the contractors for work that was done on our homes prior to us moving in. The homeowners in the community were told by the builder that the matter would be settled, and that we shouldn't worry. We were later told that the builder formed a partnership, on this particular project, with another company in the state of Illinois which filed bankruptcy. Only a few homes have been built in the community, some homes are partially built, and all construction work has come to a halt! We pay an association fee to an association that can't seem to help us in any way. On top of all of this, two days ago, many of the homeowners were served with a summons from one of the companies that placed liens on our homes. How can the homeowners be held liable for services that were contracted by the builder? We are not at fault for the builder's inability to pay the contractor. What steps should we take to resolve this matter?
