Can a life ins co give anyone my ins policy number if they are not the owner of the policy

You didn't furnish your state but seems as if you are in U.S.

Generally they will not give out the policy # or any policy information to anyone who has no interest in the policy. A third party would have no right to any policy information.

Do you have a specific situation that happened? If so, who did they give the # out to & why did they need/want it?
