What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Maryland

My mom has been receiving my dad's life insurance benefits payment since 1999 on a monthly basis from an insurance company.

1) What we want to do is to change payment to direct deposit into her bank account rather than receiving the check in the snail mail.

2) Insurance company is asking my mom to write a document of authorization that I can update her info so I will be her authorized agent which seems to be necessary as it's possible we may have the need to update her info in future.

Can you advise if it will be safe to take the above two action under Maryland Law? Insurance company's home office is in Illinois. I'm pretty sure neither actions can be used to reduce or stop my mother's monthly benefits, but wanted to get some advice.

Thank you for your advice.

Based on what you posted, I don't see a problem but you can run it by an attorney if it would make you feel better.

Having worked for a life ins. co., #1 & #2 would be "normal procedures" so I don't see any problems.

Having the Home Office of the ins. co. in a different state than where you Mom lives shouldn't be a problem either. We had a H.O. in only 1 state but just changing over to DD in another state was never a problem.

It sounds like they are just taking steps to legally enforce any potential fraud claims against you, if you collect after mom dies or take moms money.

Agree - could be. The post prior to yours OHRoadwarrior might be some sort of spam - not sure. Per their profile page seems might be from UK. There was a spam post in this thread the other day - they were from a foreign country (not UK though).
