What is the name of your state? My father recently passed, and an attempt to exploit him by an ex-girlfriend was made. We think there might be a life insurance policy, and or bank account in her name. She has been making demands for a copy of the death certificate. We do not have any money, and are trying to locate either or both of the above. Please help. We don't know how to access such information. Thank You.

You can go to http://www.mib.com and they will research life insurance policies for a small fee. As for finding a bank account in her name, that is probably going to be a brick wall. Banks don't usually reveal the names of their depositors, especially to unrelated parties.

For what its worth, there might be other accounts or things like bonds with a POD arrangement. Without spending some money on a private investigator, you may never know what is in her name.
