i live in new york...my grandmother died march 1999 after a lengthy stay on life support...the family was estranged and the hospital knew adult children existed but did no search and allowed a sister to consent to life support to be turned off..no health care proxy existed..needless to say they were after money...is the hospital responmcible to search for next of kin...is the sister obligated to tell children names and is against the law for sister to turn off lifesupport knowing children exist...
