What is the name of your state? Ohio
Several years ago I had a credit card that my brother was a secondary user on, well he ran it up and never paid. The credit card company sued me in court, when the court date arrived my lawyer was notified they had withdrawn their lawsuit. A few days ago I recieved a letter from creditor that they had sent information that I was late on a payment to the credit bureau, I was confused because I have perfect credit score and have never missed a payment or been late in 12 years. So I called the phone number on the letter and found out the account is going to collections and that was all she could tell me, when I asked her what account it was she told me it was a citi bank credit card and the last payment on the account was in 1989. Then I figured it out that it was that old credit card and they are trying to force me to pay it by putting a bad mark on my perfect record. my question is can they do this and is there not some kind of time limitations on this? It is over a 15 year old debt

As far as I know, Ohio doesn't have a SOL on credit card debt. You need to send a certified return receipt letter asking for validation of the debt.

I did send them a certified leeter stating that I need documentation of the account, and I was disputing oweing on this account and that the law requires that it be a collectable debt. Two days later I recieved a letter with an apology stating the letter was sent in error and there was/would be no reporting on the account
