What is the name of your state? CO

I had a random thought not too long ago. The fundamental problem with social security is that there are more funds going out than there are coming in -- or at least there will be soon.

Here is my question: Is it possible to sue the federal government for requiring that social security be taken out of my paycheck based on the case of Roe vs. Wade? I understand that it is a bit of a stretch, but there is a direct coorolation between the failure of social security and abortion (40 million and counting). Why should I, or any one else under 45, have to pay into a system when a Supreme Court ruling requires that the situation only get worse? I hope this line of logic makes sense.

Looking forward to the responses.

We don't do homework.
If you have a specific question, give an account of your case and the facts.
Ok, here we go:

Every paycheck, the goverment takes money out of it for federal, state, social security, and medicare taxes.

Facts:

*I am only in my mid-20's.
*I am paying into social security.
*As it stands today, social security will not be there when I am ready to collect.
*Social security will fail because not enough people will be paying in.
*Abortion takes living bodies (and their ability to reproduce) out of the population.

What can I do to stop the government from stealing from my paycheck? Does Roe v. Wade stand as a legitimate case in my favor?

Hope that was a better question!

First, the federal government has immunity from civil suits in many cases, esp cases where you are suing them to change a valid public policy. You will need a good lawyer to put a lot of hours on this case to prevent it from getting dismissed on procedu ral grounds.

Second, your statement "As it stands today, social security will not be there when I am ready to collect." is speculative and not supported by the facts. When President Bush says that "Soc Security will be bankrupt by 2048*", the asterisk means that in 2048, SS will only be able to pay 80% of benefits from that point on, not 0% as the politicians would have you believe.

Third, your statement assumes that politicians will do nothing between now and 2048 to solve the problem. Politicians are slow, but not that slow.

Fourth, where is your signed contract from the government saying that they agree to pay you $X in benefits when you retire? So you don't have one of those either? The law says you have to pay the taxes. It doesn't say anything about not changing the payouts to you in the future.

Fifth, "Abortion takes living bodies (and their ability to reproduce) out of the population." Ok, so by the same logic, you should also sue anyone who decides not to have children. And if anyone dies before they retire, their estate should be sued to cover the loss of payroll taxes until the time they would have been 65.

Sixth, this is such a blatant attempt to change government policy on abortion that the smokescreen of Social Security is laughable. If you want to outlaw abortion, lobby your representatives. Your SS agruments are downright silly.

Thank you -- that is the most clear and consise answer I have received from anyone I've spoken with.

I had not thought about point five -- thank you for that argument.

Point six is off track though. My intention was to look for a way to force the hand of congress, not to outlaw abortion. In reality, abortion will never be completely outlawed so it is sensless to lobby for that. It is my view that pro-life advocates would be better off promoting the formation of healthy marriages. That alone would eliminate many of the abortions performed today.
